The crisp air and vibrant hues of autumn set a stunning backdrop at Cacapon State Park Golf Course last Monday, October 6, as Berkeley Springs High School hosted the Class AA Region II Golf Championships. The Indians finished third overall in the team standings, posting a score of 275. Leading the way was freshman standout Cayden Swink, who carded an impressive 81, earning him a third-place individual finish and a coveted spot in the Class AA State Golf Championships.

Just missing the cut by a few strokes was sophomore Owen Gray, who shot a 94. Jackson Davison and Lu Henry rounded out the team’s scoring with rounds of 100 and 105, respectively.

Longtime head coach Dale McCumbee expressed his gratitude for the community’s support.

Swink will represent Berkeley Springs at the Class AA State Golf Championships next week at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling. The two-day, 36-hole event tees off on October 14 on the Jones Course, a par-71 layout stretching 6,605 yards and known for its challenging design and scenic views.

As the leaves continue to turn and the season winds down, Berkeley Springs celebrates a strong showing and looks ahead with pride to Swink’s upcoming state appearance.

Final Team Scores: Petersburg – 233, Frankfort – 264, Berkeley Springs – 275, Moorefield – 279, Lincoln – 287, Philip Barbour – 299 and South Harrison – 104.
