The Berkeley Springs High School Indians baseball team capped off their regular season with a strong week, notching two victories in three games, including a dominant win in their season finale at Morgan Field.
On Tuesday, May 6, the Indians traveled to Moorefield to face the Yellow Jackets in a tightly contested matchup. Locked in a scoreless battle through five innings, Berkeley Springs exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth to break the game open. They added an insurance run in the seventh to secure a 7-2 road win.
Sophomore Kyle Moore delivered a clutch performance on the mound, earning the win after tossing six complete innings. Moore scattered four hits, allowed just two runs and struck out four batters to stifle Moorefield’s offense. At the plate, Moore also contributed with two hits and an RBI. Teammates Jalen Miller and Shawn McCum- bee both recorded two hits, while Jaxon McClintock and Kyle Rankin each chipped in with RBIs.
After a short turnaround, the Indians headed to Keyser on Thursday, May 8, to take on the Golden Tornado. Keyser proved to be a tough opponent, shutting out the Indians 5-0. Despite the loss, Berkeley Springs saw solid offensive efforts from Kyle Rankin, Chase Stotler and Conner Maconaughey, who each singled in the contest.
Berkeley Springs bounced back on Saturday, May 10, in front of their home fans with an emphatic 13-11 win over the Grace Academy Knights in their season finale. The Tribe jumped out early, plating six runs in the first inning and adding runs in four of the next five innings to maintain control.
At the plate, Kyle Moore continued his hot streak, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Jayden Michael added two hits and two RBIs, while Jalen Miller had a hit, RBI and crossed the plate three times. Shawn McCumbee also contributed with two hits and a run scored. In total, the Indians pounded out 12 hits in the win.
On the mound, Kyle Moore once again led the way, pick- ing up his second win of the week. He pitched 2.2 innings and struck out four batters. Jalen Miller, Liam Coffman and Kyle Rankin also contributed on the mound. Rankin recorded the final strikeout of the game to preserve the win for the Tribe (4- 26).
With these two victories, Berkeley Springs heads into the postseason on a high note, finishing the regular season strong and looking to carry momentum into sectional play as they traveled to #1 seed Bridgeport on Monday, May 12.
