Rex Matts

1928-2024

Rex Matts passed in the early morning hours of Tuesday April 16, 2024 with his wife by his side. Rex and Sandy (Sandra L. Davison) were married 58 and 1/2 years.

Born Christmas Day 1928 in Holly, Colorado his “happy life” as he specifically wanted it known took him many places but none more special than Wonderful West Virginia.

He moved his family to Berkeley Springs in 1979 where he built his first house and helped Sandy raise their son Samuel L. Matts and daughter Rebecca Matts Carney. He later welcomed John Carney, son in law, and Clara L. Carney his only grandchild also known as Sweet Clara.

Rex was preceded in death by his father, Fleming Samuel Matts, his mother Rebecca Sena Matts and a brother Sam Matts. Rex often shared fond memories with his kids of growing up in Colorado with his Solano cousins.

He served his country in the United States Air Force for a number of years. After service he studied at Asbury College in Los Angeles, Calif. and graduated from New Mexico Highlands University, Las Vegas, New Mexico.

His request was a private remembrance with only his immediate family.

If you wish to remember Rex read the Washington Post or New York Times or grab a fishing pole and go fishing for an afternoon.

Memorials can also be made to the Hospice of the Panhandle, 330 Hospice Lane, Kearneysville, West Virginia 25430.
