George “Joby” Blankley, Jr.

1937-2024

George “ Joby” Blankley, Jr. age 86, of Hancock, Md., passed away Friday April 19, 2024, at Meritus Medical Center , Hagerstown, Maryland.

Born Thursday, December 16, 1937 in Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late George W. and Hilda H. Bishop Blankley.

He attended Warfordsburg Schools, he was a mechanic retiring from U.S. Silica in 2004 after 38 years of service.

Joby was a member of Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church the Cumberland Valley Antique Tractor Club, enjoyed hunting, fishing , woodworking, restoring antique John Deere tractors, attending tractor shows, camping and was an avid gardener.

Joby is survived by two daughters, Gale Shafer and husband Jimmy Smith of Artemas, Pa., and Lenore Stains of Greencastle, Pa.; one son Roger and wife Sherry of Warfordsburg; six grandchildren; John, Heather, Laken, Shane, Sethretha, Jay R.; twelve great and two great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Dale, Rusty and Steve; four sisters, Anna J. Crilly, Evelyn Powell, Bessie Wagner and Betty Johnson, and his life long partner of 47 years, Patsy Weller. Joby is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers; Kenneth, Joseph, Grant, Ronald and Lot Blankley; one sister Shirley Blankley, and one granddaughter Santana.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial held at Warfordsburg Presbyterian Cemetery.
