Tony Joseph DiPietro, Sr.

1932-2024

Tony Joseph DiPietro, Sr., 91, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died peacefully at home on April 9, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Born in Morgantown, W.Va., on September 1, 1932, he was the son of the late John and Carmela DiPietro.

He was a graduate of Morgantown High School and after graduation, he joined the Army, where he served in the Korean War. Once his tour ended, he started working as a carpenter and became a Construction Superintendent in the Washington, D.C. area before retiring to Berkeley Springs.

Tony was extremely knowledgeable with guns, muzzleloaders and bows and enjoyed gun and bow hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of almost 70 years, Jeannine Lee DiPietro in 2022. Tony met Jeannine while he was serving in the Army and was preparing to be deployed to Korea. They promised to write letters, and over that time, ended up falling in love over their love letters. They married in Morgantown, W.Va., on June 27, 1953.

He is survived by his son Tony J. DiPietro Jr., and his wife Jeryl Ann, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; his daughter Jane Keightley and her husband Jack, of Yulee, Florida; his son Michael DiPietro and his partner Jimmy Horner, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; his five grandchildren, Jeffrey DiPietro and his wife Kelli, Amy DiPietro and her partner Brian Moretz, Timothy DiPietro, Steve Johnson and his wife Bridget and Joey Johnson and his wife Lynsey; as well as his four great-grandchildren, Nicolas DiPietro, Kaylee Johnson, Alexander Moretz and Colton Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Henry DiPietro and his sister, Jennie “Jane” DiPietro.

Interment will be private. A celebration of life will be held by his family at a later date.
