Warm Springs Middle School and Berkeley Springs High School band students performed in the annual Region IX Honor Band concert on Saturday, January 28 at Martinsburg High School.
The bands rehearsed on Friday and Saturday to prepare for the concerts, said Warm Springs Middle School band director Ian Helmick.
Region IX is comprised of Berkeley, Grant, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson, Morgan, Mineral, and Pendleton Counties.
Some 18 middle schools and 98 middle school students participated. 15 high schools and 83 high school students participated. Each school was allowed to nominate students to participate, Helmick said.
Warm Springs Middle School students that performed were Wyatt Bartley and Circe Powell playing alto saxophone and Dominic Puffenberger and Ethan Rawlings playing trumpet. The guest conductor was Dr. Rob Hovermale.
Middle school Honor Band concert selections were “Fireburst Fanfare”- Roland Barrett; “Dark Ride” – Randall Standridge; “Byzantine Dances”- Carol Brittin Chambers; “Armory”- Randall Standridge; and “Blinding Lights”- The Weeknd, said Helmick.
Berkeley Springs High School band student Adam Lambert performed playing clarinet. The guest conductor was Dr. Mark McCoy. Bob Myers is the Berkeley Springs High School band director.
High school Honor Band concert selections were “Americans We”-Henry Fillmore; “O Magnum Mysterium”- Morten Lauridsen; “Ye Banks and Braes” – Percy Aldridge Grainger; and Symphonic Dance No. 3: “Fiesta” – Clifton Williams.
