Berkeley Springs Track & Field showcases talents in two meets

The Berkeley Springs High School Track & Field teams were in action this past week with two meets. Both teams were able to show how much improvement they have made since the start of the season.

On Tuesday, April 16, Berkeley Springs traveled to Frankfort High School for a multi-team event that featured teams from Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.

On the boy’s side the Indians finished in sixth place overall with 22 points. Moun- tain Ridge (167), Fort Hill (143), Frankfort (130), East Hardy (33), Northern Garrett (23) and Berkeley Springs rounded out the teams.

The following led the Indians in the meet. Jacob Shekey (fourth place, 100 meters, 11.92), Lukas Purdy (sixth place, discus, 99’9”), Dakota Hamrick (fifth place, high jump, 5’2”), 4×100 meter relay team (fourth place, 47.27: D. Smith, D. Hamrick, R. Sauteers and J. Shekey), 4×200 meter relay (fourth place, 1:40: R. Sauteers, D. Smith, D. Hamrick, J. Shekey), 4×400 meter relay (fourth place, 3:53: J. Hernanz, R. Sauteers, D. Smith, L. Sealey) and the 4×800 meter relay (fifth place, 10:05: J. Nazelrod, H. Ailor, L. Sealey, J. Walls).

On the girl’ s side, the Lady Indians finished in fifth place out of seven teams. Mountain Ridge (111), Frankfort (95), Northern Garrett (78), Fort Hill (75), Berkeley Springs (73), East Hardy (60) and Union (28) rounded out the scoring.

Leading the way for the Lady Indians were the following. Tenacious Ray (second place, 100 meters, 13.84), Albani Cirigliano (second place, 200 meters, 28.43), Audrey Helmick (fourth place, 800 meters, 2:39), Isabelle Bingaman (fifth place, 1600 meters,

6:08), Delilah Rhoten (fifth place, 100 meter hurdles, 18.49), Katie Risinger (second place, shot put, 28’8 3⁄4”, Stephanie Briscoe (first place, discus, 93’ 6”), 4×100 meter relay (second place, 51.58: A. Ambrose, A. Cirigliano, C. Powell, T. Ray), 4×200 meter relay (4th place, 1:58: A. Ambrose, A. Cirigliano,, D. Rhoten, T. Ray), 4×400 meter relay (sec- ond place, 4:42: I. Bingaman, A. Helmick, D. Rhoten, T. Ray) and the 4×800 meter relay (fourth place, 11:24: I. Bingaman, K. Coulter, K. Risinger, A. Helmick).

This past Saturday, April 20 at the Widmyer Track, the Indians hosted eight teams on a beautiful Saturday. Before the event took place, the senior track athletes were recognized (Audrey Helmick, Jillian Fortney, Miyah Saville, Stephanie Briscoe, Dakota Hamrick, Lukas Purdy, Jacob Shekey, Cheyenne Lewis, Clara Payne and Javi Hernanz).

On the boy’ s side, the Indians finished in fourth place out of eight teams. Clear Spring (115.5), McConnells- burg (107), Keyser (102), Berkeley Springs (101.5), Petersburg (81), Hancock (60.5), Faith Christian (30.5) and Timber Ridge (13) rounded out the scoring.

Leading the way for the Indians were a slew of competitors. Jacob Shekey (second place, 100 meters, 12.5), LJ Sealey (third place, 400 meters, 57.34, second place, 800 meters, 2:17), Josh W alls (sixth place, 800 meters, 2:27 and third place, 1600 meters, 5:29), Jayvontae Nazelrodt (fourth place, 1600 meters, 5:35), Haven Ailor (third place, 3200 meters, 13:04), Dakota Hamrick (first place, pole vault, 13’ 7”), Chunjae Yun (fifth place, pole vault, 9’00”), 4×100 meter relay (2nd place, 47.25: D. Smith, R. Sauteers, J. Shekey, D. Hamrick), 4×200 meter relay (first place, 1:40: D. Smith , D. Hamrick, J. Shekey, R. Sauteers), 4×400 meter relay (second place, 3:58: J. Hernanz, J. Shekey, D. Smith, L. Sealey) and the 4×800 meter relay (second place, 9:45: J. Walls, J. Nazelrodt, H. Ailor, L. Sealey).

On the girls side the Lady Indians finished in second place out of six teams. The following athletes led Berkeley Springs. Kayleigh Coulter (fourth place, 800 meters, 3:04 and fourth place, 1600 meters, 6:47), Audrey Helmick (first place, 3200 meters, 13:16), Isabelle Bingaman (second place, 3200 meters, 13:33), Delilah Rhoten (fourth place, 100 meter hurdles, 18.30), Circe Powell (fifth place, 100 meter hurdles, 18.49), Albani Cirigliano (second place, 300 hurdles, 50.39), Katie Risinger (fourth place, shot put, 30’ 3 3⁄4”), Stephanie Briscoe (second place, dis- cus, 95’6”), Macey Fincham (3rd place, high jump, 4’2”), Willow Rhoten (third place, high jump, 4’2”), Circe Powell (fifth place, pole vault, 6’ 00”) and Kaitlin Hagney (fifth place, pole vault, 6’00”).
