Broadband study firm chosen

by Trish Rudder

Design 9 of Blacksburg, Va. was awarded a contract by the Morgan County Commission on July 5 to study Morgan County for fixed wireless broadband service coverage.

The study was to begin immediately, said Morgan County Commission president Joel Tuttle and will end on October 15.

The cost of the $24,700 contract will come from the $75,000 Broadband Project Team Planning Grant that was awarded to the county, said Grants Administrator/ Interim County Administrator, Stefanie Allemong.

The company will conduct surveys and examine towers and infrastructure, she said.

911 center tech support

Mission Critical of Ft. Matilda, Pa. was awarded a contract by the Morgan County Commission to provide technical support for the design and equipping of a new 911 center. The contract will cost the county $57,309.

At the July 5 Morgan County Commission meeting, Zach Caldwell, E911 Director, said the company will remain with the project until it is “up and running 100 percent.”

Allemong said the company will make sure the interworkings of the computerized equipment are in order at the new center and will oversee the system to make sure it works properly.

The new 911 center will be built in The Pines, the old War Memorial Hospital.

No renovation completion date has been set, she said.
