Bath municipal sales tax yields $402,000 in first year

by Lisa Schauer

Town of Bath brought in a total of $402,000 from its new one-percent municipal sales tax in 2025.

In a public meeting on Tuesday, February 17, town officials reported $122,000 was received in the fourth quarter, which included tourism-heavy events like the Apple Butter Festival and Winter Fest.

During the third quarter, from July through September, the municipal sales tax yielded $115,000.

The town received $110,000  from the second quarter of the municipal tax collection, from April through June.

During the first quarter of the sales tax — from January through March — $55,000 was collected for the town.

The Bath Council had initially projected $60,000 would be raised from the new tax, which required elimination of the old business and occupation tax. The B&O tax had brought in $58,000 in 2024.

Bath council members will soon begin its budget planning process for the coming fiscal year. That will include an updated projected revenue from the municipal sales tax, and expenditures of that revenue.
