by Kate Shunney

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding a shooting at a Monday evening party in eastern Morgan County that left four individuals wounded. Two of those people were receiving medical care on Tuesday morning – one at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown and the other at Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg. The two others were treated and released from local care.

Morgan County Sheriff K.C. Bohrer told The Morgan Messenger on Tuesday that his deputies responded to reports of the shooting on Householder Road shortly after 1:20 a.m. on August 6. Householder Road is located in the Cherry Run area of eastern Morgan County.

According to Bohrer, a larger party had gathered at a property and an altercation escalated to individuals exchanging gunfire. Four victims were shot. No shooter has been identified or charged as of press time.

The incident is under active investigation by Deputies Diehl and Knotts.

Bohrer said his department has been responding to multiple large parties in Morgan County in the last several weeks. Organizers of the gathering are using a social media app that posts the party location, attracting individuals from the quad-state area. Bohrer said attendees have ranged from the late teens to early 20s and alcohol is usually involved.

The Sheriff’s Department is looking for any information from people who were at the party or have knowledge of the incident in order to identify the shooter or shooters involved.

Bohrer did not release the identity of the shooting victims and couldn’t say whether they are local residents.

Anyone with information that can assist in the investigation should call the Sheriff’s Department at 304-258-1067.
