Harold Jennings “H.J.” Omps

1936-2024

Harold Jennings “H.J.” Omps, 87, of Bloomery, W.Va., passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Jennings was born in 1936 in Bloomery, W.Va., son of the late Raymond and Bessie Omps.

He was a graduate of Capon Bridge High School, Class of 1954.

He owned and farmed State Line Farms. Over the years, along with farming, Jennings cut pulp wood, sawmilled, cut timber, hauled and spread lime.

He was an active member of Bloomery Presbyterian Church, where he had served as a Deacon. Jennings was also a member of the Bloomery Hunt Club, WV Farm Bureau and a stockholder in the Farmer’s Livestock Exchange. He served as chairman for the Farm Service Agency.

Jennings enjoyed watching old westerns and football, was a huge NASCAR fan (Bill Elliott was his favorite driver) and enjoyed going to farm auctions. He always looked forward to deer season and loved attending livestock sales.

Jennings never met a stranger wherever he went. He was deeply loved and will be forever missed by his family, friends and faithful companion dog “Bear.”

He married Shirley Jean Whitacre on July 6, 1963 in Williamsport, Md., and they enjoyed over 60 years of marriage.

Surviving with his wife are children, Randall M. Omps (Linda) of Bloomery, W.Va., Michael J. Omps (Deborah) of Bloomery, W.Va., Teresa J. Omps (fiancé, Chuck Mullens) of Bloomery, W.Va., and Robin L. George (David) of Akron, Ohio; grandchildren, Michael Raymond Omps (Lori) of Augusta, W.Va., Ashley N. Skiratko (Steve) of Westminster, Md., Brandon J. Omps of Bloomery, W.Va., and Erin R. George of Akron, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Michael Ryan Omps of Romney, W.Va., Carson D. and Carleigh J. Skiratko of Westminster, Md.; brothers, B. Wendell Omps (Joyce) of Whitacre, Va., and Ronald R. Omps (Burma) of Augusta, W.Va. Along with his parents,

Jennings is preceded in death by sister, Willie Lea Gano and brothers Charles W., Ellis J., and Carroll N. Omps.

A visitation was held from 5-8 p.m., on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. All other services were private.
