Ruth Marie McCarty

1934-2024

Ruth Marie (Shoemaker) McCarty, 89, formerly of Hancock, Md., and Falling Waters, W.Va., entered eternal life on Friday, March 8, 2024, at The Leland at Laurel Run, Waynesboro, Pa.

Born Friday, September 7, 1934, in Morgan County, W.Va., Ruth was the daughter of the late James Chester Shoemaker and Mildred Virginia Michael Shoemaker.

Ruth was a 1952 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

She retired from the Washington County Public Schools, having worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Hancock Elementary School.

She was a member of St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, Hancock.

Ruth is survived by three daughters, Kathy Santa Barbara (Michael) of Martinsburg, W.Va., Janice Henry (Gregory) of Berkeley Springs and Patricia Specht (Clay) of Tecumseh, Kansas; and two granddaughters who were the light of her life, Caitlin Santa Barbara of Baltimore, Md., and Meghan Santa Barbara of Tampa, Fla.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Andrew McCarty, whom she married December 31, 1951, and her two brothers, Robert Eugene Shoemaker and James Glendon “Glen” Shoemaker.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, at 11 a.m., at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 2 E. High St., Hancock. Rev. F. Allan Weatherholt, Jr. will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, Friday, March 15, from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grove-Rogowski Funeral Home, 141 West Main Street, Hancock, Maryland.
