John Thomas Hiles, Sr.

1936-2024

John Thomas Hiles, Sr., age 87, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at his home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born February 3, 1936 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Harry Marshall and Ethel Lee Crouse Hiles.

He was a member of Word of Deliverance Church. John attended schools in Morgan County. He served in the United States Air Force.

John worked as an operator for 36 years with U.S. Silica.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved going to church, reading his Bible and talking about Jesus.

John is survived by his daughter, Angela Elaine Hiles, at home, one sister, Linda Lyons of Berkeley Springs, two brothers, Curtis Hiles and Danny Hiles, both of Manassas, Va. and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred Ruth Holliday, two sons, John Thomas Hiles, Jr. and Michael Lenwood Hiles, three sisters, Betty Farris, Ruth Costello and Eva Kidwell, five brothers, Harry Hiles, Jimmy Hiles, Jesse Hiles, Leroy Hiles and Jack Hiles.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Word of Deliverance Church, 103 Honey Crest Drive, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., where the family received friends one hour prior to services. Pastor Lisa Unger officiated. Military honors were provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard. Private burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
