Paw Paw Christmas parade & concert bring magic of hometown holiday

by Lisa Schauer

The annual Paw Paw Christmas parade stepped off on a balmy Sunday afternoon, December 3 under partly sunny skies, marching down Winchester Avenue through the tiny town, ending at the Liberty store.

Lights flashed, sirens wailed, marching bands played, candy flew from floats, horses marched, and Santa was perched atop his sleigh in the homespun holiday parade.

The Paw Paw parade committee, producers of the Christmas parade, awarded five $50 cash prizes to Santa’s best helpers.

Representatives from Mountaineer Community Health Center handed out large cups of cocoa and packs of cookies from a table set up in the Bank of Romney parking lot.

The Tree of Love was decorated and lit in the field next to the bank, in memory of loved ones.

The parade was followed for the first time by a free concert performed by the Paw Paw Community Choir and streamed live.
