Neal M. Farris

1935-2023

Neal M. Farris, 88, passed away on November 9, 2023, at Jefferson Health Care in Jefferson, Ohio.

He was born on July 8, 1935, in West Virginia, the son of Bernard and Nellie (Kidwell) Farris.

On December 29, 1956, Neal married his beautiful bride, Carol A. Gill, they shared fifty-six years of wonderful marriage until her passing on December 5, 2013.

Neal came to Northeast Ohio from Great Cacapon, W.Va. in the 1950’s initially working on the Lake Erie boats. He became a tree trimmer soon after, working in the area for different tree service companies, most of whom contracted with the electric company. He settled in Orwell after marriage and then lived in New Lyme for over 45 years. He owned and operated Farris Tree and Stump Removal Service for many years, taking a lot of pride in his skilled work as an arborist. Neal retired from his “day” job at age 62 and climbed his last tree at the age of 76. It wasn’t work when he was in a tree. He continued to keep busy repairing chainsaws, lawnmowers and did a lot of light landscaping. He enjoyed helping people when he could use his John Deere tractor preparing gardens, hauling wood, brush hogging and snowplowing. He was a gardener and he and Carol always had plenty of their own produce all year around. He liked to bow and gun hunt and used his hunting skills helping local farmers out with pest control. Neal always enjoyed neighbors and friends who dropped by the garage to talk “shop.” He truly loved his grandchildren and celebrating the holidays with family. He never forgot where he came from and loved to visit family in West Virginia as often as he could.

He is survived by his daughter, Georgia Farris (William K.) Romanko of Andover, Ohio; his grandchildren: Megan E. Huffman (David Slozat) of Clear Brook, Va., Cassandra A. Huffman of Howland, Ohio and Adam W. Romanko of Andover, Ohio; his sister, Bernice Gloyd of Great Cacapon, W.Va.; his sisters-in-law, Ernesteen Farris of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and Mary E. Gill of Warren, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol; a stillborn daughter, Cheryl Elaine; his son-in-law, Jerry W. Huffman; his siblings: Dwan Farris, Glen Farris and Patricia Brown and his stepfather, Howard Stotler.

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 20, from 10-11 a.m., with the funeral service to begin at 11a.m., at the Brownwood Cemetery Chapel, 2050 Kinsman Road NW, North Bloomfield, Ohio. Pastor Jason Hockran from Andover United Methodist Church will be officiating the services. Burial to immediately follow the funeral service.

Memorial contributions can be made in Neal’s name to the Country Neighbor Program, 39 South Maple Street, Orwell, Ohio, 44076.

Czup Funeral Home is honored to be handling the arrangements for the Farris Family.
