Hancock track and field athletes shined in field events during a regional invitational meet last Thursday, March 24.
Ten teams brought their track and field competitors to Clear Spring High School for the Quinn Hoover Invitational, including Hancock, Berkeley Springs, Faith Christian, Clear Spring, Maryland School for the Deaf, North Garrett County, Roland Park Country, Southern Garrett County, St. Maria Goretti and Williamsport.
The Lady Panthers ranked fifth in team scores in Women’s Varsity events with 34 points. Top girls team Roland Park Country rolled up 195 points, far outpacing the number two team North Garrett County, with 69 points.
Hancock girls stood out in field events, with junior Joslyn Foltz dominating the Varsity Shot Put with a distance of 31 feet, 3 inches. Sophomore Amy Davis landed at 16th place in shot put, with a throw of 20 feet, 7 inches.
Foltz also grabbed third place in Varsity Discus, with a throw of 88 feet, 1 inch. Davis took ninth place with a throw of 65 feet, five inches.
Junior Aidan Faith took second in Women’s Varsity Long Jump, with a leap of 14-02.50. Junior Taylor Walls took 13th place with a distance of 11-09.25.
Aidan Faith dominated the Women’s Varsity Triple Jump, with a distance of 31.06.
The Hancock boys team took to the track in the 100 and 200-Meter events.
In the 100-meter, freshman Brody Stratton came in 13th place with a time of 15.06, sophomore Nick Creek takes 15th place with a time of 15.60 and sophomore Dominick McKee took 16th place with a time of 16.83.
In the 200-meter track event, McKee took 18th place with a time of 35.83.
In the Men’s Varsity Shot Put, freshman Brody Stratton took 12th place with a throw of 27-11.5. Sophomore Jerry Stratton took a 17th place finish with a throw of 16-02.50.
Brody Stratton took 15th place for Hancock in the discus throw with a distance of 56-04. Nick Creek was in 17th place with a throw of 38-05 and Jerry Stratton took 18th place with a throw of 23-10.
Hancock’s track and field team will compete next in the April 2 Dwight Scott “Battlefield Blast” Invitational at Boonsboro High School.
