George Calvin “Buck” Kyne
1945-2021
George Calvin “Buck” Kyne, of Big Pool, Md., passed away in peace with dignity at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va., on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. He persevered to pass his 76th birthday on the preceding day.
Buck was born August 31, 1945 in Baltimore, Md., son of the late George Anthony and Mary Ellen Michael Kyne.
He was raised with four siblings in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., on the family farm in the Johnson’s Mill area. He was Catholic by baptism, but had most recently attended Methodist churches in Big Pool, Md.
A 1964 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School, he served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following basic training at Fort Bragg, N.C., he was assigned to Fort Lee, Va., Inchon, Korea and was honorably discharged while assigned to Fort Carson, Colo., in August, 1970. For many years, he worked in sales for Mack and various other trucking related industries in the Baltimore, Washington and Annapolis areas. He was a partner in Liberty Truck Parts in Annapolis.
Until recent years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had been a member of the hunting club in Berkeley Springs and the Western Maryland Sportsman Club.
He was also a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 and Risinger-Stotler V.F.W. Post #4019 in Berkeley Springs.
Buck is survived by his wife, Kendra Lavonne McGowan Murphy Kyne, at home; three daughters, Gina Murphy, of Spring, Texas, Kelly Murphy, of Manassas Park, Va., and Gaela Murphy Shoop and her husband Michael, of Big Pool, Md.; six grandchildren including “Pop Pops” two favorite “little people,” Haeleigh and Henry Shoop, both of Big Pool, along with Sean Galloway of Cypress, Texas, Murphy Galloway, of Spring Lake, Minn., Kyleigh Murphy and T.G. Hix, both of Manassas Park, Va.; one great granddaughter, Gianna; his only brother, Randy Kyne and wife Dawn and family; three sisters, Mary Lou Koontz, her husband Roy and family, Virginia Lea Fletcher, her husband Terry and family and Jean Young and husband Richard and family, all of Berkeley Springs; his close cousin, Joe Michael, of Berkeley Springs; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many cousins and extended family which include his only remaining aunt, Carrie Michael, who he was very fond of and spent much time with at their farm in Berkeley Springs.
He also enjoyed time spent with his late Uncle Kenny on the farm.
A special thank you is extended to the staff of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg – the I.C.U, the 5th floor palliative and hospice care nurses and staff as well as Dr. Martz and the staff of the VA Clinic in Hagerstown.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., with Pastor Darlene Powers officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard. Private interment will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
