1941-2022

Cathryn Ann Smith, age 81, of Great Cacapon, W.Va., died on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Winchester Medical Center.

Born December 17, 1941 in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late James Gary and Hester Elizabeth Ayers Waltermyer.

She was a Protestant.

Cathryn was a 1960 graduate of the Maryland School for the Deaf in Frederick, Md.

She had worked as a kitchen aide at Coolfont Resort in Berkeley Springs.

Cathy was always so full of life, love and laughter. She never knew a stranger and always had a smile on her beautiful face. She loved her family and was the absolute best Mom and Grandmother to her family but she also always cared and loved all the “Capon Kids” thru the many years of her life. She was always “the joy” in any gathering she attended and if you ever heard her giggle or laughter you will surely never forget it.

She was adored by her children and loved so very deeply. She was the HEART of this family and enjoyed many years of family gatherings, going to the river, camping, traveling, sporting events, attending many deaf social gatherings and just having a blast. She loved life to the fullest and was one of the greatest women EVER!

Surviving are her children, Douglas Eugene Smith, Jr. of Berkeley Springs, Frank Anthony Smith Sr. of Tera Alta, W.Va. and Wendy Lynn Smith of Great Cacapon, her partner of 27 years, Edward Bujanowski of Great Cacapon, four grandchildren, Brittney Spurlock of Frederick, Md., Brandi Scott of Berkeley Springs, Ashley Moon and Frank Anthony Smith, Jr., both of Romney, W.Va., five great-grandchildren, Eli Fox, Dominic Fox, Raelyn Castle, Remington Smith and Bailey Smith and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Eugene Smith, Sr., three sisters, Helen Agee, Alice Watson and Dorothy Meloney and two brothers, John Alton Waltermyer and James Gary Waltermyer.

Services and interment will be announced at a later date.
