On April 21, a declaration by Governor Jim Justice that students would not be returning to the classroom this spring and the subsequent inevitable declaration by the WVSSAC that there would be no 2020 softball season immediately brings to mind a quote often attributed to the great UCLA basketball coach John Wooden: “Things work out best for those who make the best of how things work out.”
One of those athletes affected by the end of the 2020 softball season was Berkeley Springs High School Lady Indians softball player Serenity Parsell.
Parsell has played softball for the Lady Indians for the last three years. Last season, Parsell was the starting pitcher for the junior varsity program along with playing almost every position in the field while batting in the cleanup role. This spring Parsell was slated to be the Lady Indians starting pitcher.
“I will miss all the friends I made the most. From the friends I made in little league to my senior year, I miss every single one of them. My favorite high school softball memory would have to be playing stick ball before games. It always made us super pumped before games, and I think we played better when we warmed up with stick ball before hand,” stated Parsell.
Parsell is a member of the BSHS Student Council, National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society.
Upon graduating from Berkeley Springs High School, Parsell plans to attend Fairmont State University to study forensic biotechnology.
