Schedule set for local students to collect school belongings next week


Starting next week, students in Hancock who have belongings still at schools can pick them up as well as dropping off any equipment or books belonging to their school.

Students in Hancock will begin picking up their belongings from their respective school starting next Tuesday.

Both Hancock Middle-Senior High School and Elementary principals sent to parents and posted on social media letters describing the way items could be picked up.

For Hancock Middle-Senior High School, the first date is next Tuesday, June 9, students in sixth grade will be able to pick their belongings from their lockers from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Wednesday, June 10, seventh graders will be able to pick their belongings; Thursday, June 11, eighth graders; Friday, June 12, ninth graders; Monday, June 15, tenth graders; and Tuesday, June 16, eleventh graders. All times for those grades are also 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

If students are unable to make their grade level day, WCPS has made Wednesday, June 17, the day those students can pick up belongings. Students can pick them up between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Families that have more than one student at Hancock Middle-Senior High School are able to pick up belongings for those students at the same time.

In the letter from Principal Chris Cline, when student arrive on campus, they are to enter the front bus loop and stop in front of the auditorium. They are asked to avoid getting out of the vehicle and can pop the trunk and a staff member would set a box with the student’s name and belongings in the vehicle. If the student ordered a yearbook, it will be in the box as well.

There are a limited number of yearbooks to purchase as well with a cost of $65. If a student wants a yearbook, you must contact the school starting June 8.

If the student had medication in the school’s health suite, students would need to show their ID and sign upon receipt of the medication.

After receiving their belongings, students would exit out the front bus loop.

There will also be equipment drop offs at this time as well.

Cline said in the letter any items that belong to the school such as iPads, bricks, cords, library or text books, instruments, or any other materials from classrooms, are asked to be brought and dropped off as well.

“We ask that you label the items with the student’s name and place them in your trunk so that staff can easily access them,” Cline said in the letter.

Any student attending summer school will be issued an iPad through summer school.

Identification for medication and any refunds to the student is also needed.

At Hancock Elementary, students can begin picking up their belongings starting Tuesday, June 16 at 8 a.m. for Pre-K and Kindergarten. That pick up runs until 11 a.m. First and second grade students can pick up their belongings the same day starting at 12 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Grades three and four can pick up their belongings starting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17, until 11 a.m. Fifth grade and any family that could not come prior to that can pick up their belongings from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m.

A rain date is scheduled for Thursday, June 18, from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. This will also be a time for those families who may not be able to come the previous two days.

In her letter, Principal Michelle Gest said any items needing to be returned to the school, which are those similar to the high school, should be placed in a plastic bag or box with the student’s full name and teacher’s name on the outside of the bag or box, and placed in the car’s trunk.

While iPads will need to be returned, students registered to participate in extended summer learning at Hancock Elementary may keep the iPad.

“Please inform the staff member that your child will be keeping the iPad for summer learning at the time of drop off,” Gest said in the letter. Students will also need to show the iPad to staff members at that time as well, she added.

When families arrive for pick up at the elementary school, Gest asks them to pull around the front and down the bus loop and a staff member, wearing glove and mask, will ask for the child’s name and grade level.

Families are asked to stay in the vehicle an pop the trunk so a staff member can place the items in the trunk and take the returning items out.

Gest said if the times and dates don’t work for you as they want to ensure all students are able to pick up their materials and drop off school materials.

Parents with more than one student in a grade level may pick up and drop off all their students’ materials on the same day and time.
