Residents of the Town of Hancock have until Thursday, January 3 at noon to register to vote in the January 28 municipal election.
Voters will choose a mayor for a two-year term of office and two council members to serve four-year terms.
Qualified town residents can register to vote at the Town Office at 126 West High Street, or by completing a registration card available at the post office and filing that form with the Town Office. Those registrations must be complete by 12 noon on Thursday, according to town rules.
Hancock voters will choose between two candidates for mayor. Incumbent Ralph Salvagno is seeking a second term of office. He faces a challenge from former councilman Nigel Dardar.
Five candidates are seeking two seats on the Hancock council. Current councilmen Levi Little and Tim Smith are running for re-election and are being challenged by David Kerns, Preston Hall and Roland Lanehart Jr.
Absentee ballot deadline
Any voter who may be unavoidably absent from the town for any reason on election day or any qualified voter whose physical disability or confinement in or restriction to an institution prevents or will prevent them from being present on election day are able to vote as an absentee voter under the town’s ordinance.
Written requests for the absentee ballot must be received by Monday, January 14.
