The Berkeley Springs High School Lady Indians have been working since February 15 in preparation of their upcoming season. Normally this time of the year the team would be in the middle of sectional play, however Covid-19 threw a monkey wrench into those plans. Now the Lady Indians will be looking at a shortened season, but one that has a lot of potential.
“I am excited for this opportunity to get back on the basketball floor. Based on the first four practices back in November and a couple of days of conditioning before February 15 this group seems to have a really good mindset. Our numbers are low and it looks like we will only have a varsity team. There is a good mix of new players and veterans that seem to work well together. Just really hope we can navigate through this and have an opportunity for our seniors to get to play some basketball games,” stated veteran head coach Dale McCumbee.
Three Lady Indian seniors Karalyne Banks, Tyaira Mifflin and Caybrie Clatterbuck will have their last shot at getting the Tribe past the sectional playoffs. All three have played many minutes over the last three years and their veteran leadership is laying the foundation this season.
The rest of the roster includes juniors Harley Dida-wick and Britney Huntley, sophomore Jazmine Briscoe and freshmen Stephanie Briscoe, Emma Widmyer, Maddie Fauver, Grace Risinger and Eva Jacobson.
The Lady Indians will open their season on Wednesday, March 3 with a home contest at 6:30 p.m. against Hampshire. Then on Friday, March 5 the Lady Indians will hit the road for a contest at Keyser.
