Morgan County Health Department officials on Wednesday said that a public event on December 11 in Berkeley Springs State Park “has the potential to have exposed additional community members who were in attendance to COVID-19.”
“If you attended the Christmas in the Park event that was held on the evening of the 11th, you may have come into contact with a positive case,” the Health Department said. Reporting of positive cases and contact tracing investigations led health staff to look at the Dec. 11 event.
The Morgan Messenger reported last week on “Christmas in the Park in Lexus’ Honor” — a Christmas celebration that was held in the state park on the evening of Friday, December 11. Event organizers said around 200 kids with their parents attended the two-hour outdoor gathering with games and giveaways.
Health officials have shared more information about how to deal with potential virus exposure, including monitoring for symptoms, self-quarantine and testing as needed. A guide on what to do if a person thinks they have been exposed to COVID-19 is available here on the WV DHHR website.
If attendees develop symptoms, have concerns or feel they need to be tested, they should contact their normal healthcare provider or the health department.
“During times when we are in a high rate of community spread, as we are currently, limiting gathering sizes is important,” said Dr. Kevin McLaughlin, Deputy Health Officer with the Morgan County Health Department.
