Hancock COVID cases creep near 30, county near 1,700

Cases for the novel coronavirus are creeping toward 30 confirmed cases in the Hancock zip code and 1,700 overall in Washington County.

As of Monday afternoon, the state’s COVID-19 Data Dashboard had the 21750 zip code as having 26 confirmed cases. That total has not changed in two weeks.

In the Big Pool zip code, 21711, there have been 12 confirmed cases. The state dashboard does not have any record for the zip codes for Little Orleans, or Flintstone.

In Washington County, as of Monday afternoon, there were 43,487 tests had been administered, a 328 increase over the previous 36 hours.

Of those tests, there have been 1,695 confirmed cases in Washington County, up 12 over the previous 36 hours.

There have been eight patients hospitalized in the county, a decrease of one in the last 36 hours.

There have been 37 confirmed deaths from COVID-19 in Washington County with 20 of those being nursing home residents.

The breakdown between genders has been equal as 845 females and 845 males have contracted the virus. However, females hold a slightly higher number when it comes to deaths.

Washington County reports only 13 males have died from COVID-19 with 24 females have passed away from the virus. There have been five unconfirmed cases.

COVID-19 doesn’t affect only one age group and the number is in Washington County prove it.

Youngsters aged 0-9 have had 52 cases of COVID-19. Those folks aged 80 or over have had 72 cases with 24 deaths.

The age range with the most cases has been those aged 20-29 with 305 cases of COVID-19. There has been one death in that age group, the county reports.

COVID has also temporarily closed a popular local restaurant after an employee tested positive.

According to a post on social media, BuddyLou’s announced they would be closing on September 22 after an employee tested positive.

Owner Diane Smith said in the post the closure wasn’t required, she felt it was important to be safe and everyone was being tested.

A professional disinfecting company was coming in to disinfect the restaurant as well.

“As soon as we have negative results for enough people we will reopen and hopefully everyone will be negative,” Smith said in the post.
