Madeline Marie Ward
1930-2026
Madeline Marie Ward, 95, of Warfordsburg, Pa., passed away Thursday, September 3, 2026, at her residence.
Born Monday, September 8, 1930, in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Carl and Marie Fischer Hendershot.
Madeline was a graduate of Southern Fulton High School Class of 1948.
She worked as a teacher’s aid and special tutor for over thirty-two years in Fulton County, retiring in 2004. She went on to work at Hendershot’s Sporting Goods part-time and part-time at the Park-N-Dine.
She enjoyed traveling, visiting thirty-six countries in her lifetime. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Hancock, Md. Madeline never met a stranger and enjoyed visits with friends and family filled with conversation, laughter and music. Her faith was unwavering and was evident in the way she lived, loved and faced life’s challenges with grace and dignity.
She is survived by one son, Jeffrey Ward and wife Rebecca of The Villages of Florida; one brother, Gerald L. Hendershot and wife Marcia of Warfordsburg, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Billy Lee Ward; two sons, Stuart L. Ward and Steven C. Ward; one sister, Norma L. Ward; and two brothers, Glenn D. Hendershot and Sylvan L. Hendershot.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Grane Hospice and Bonnie Shoemaker for the loving care that was provided. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Hancock, Md. Burial will follow at the Buck Valley Methodist Church Cemetery, 6600 Buck Valley Rd, Warfordsburg, Pa. Bishop Eric P. Exline will officiate.
