At the request of the Delectable Mountain Quilt Guild, the Morgan County Commission has declared August 2026 as Quilt Month in Berkeley Springs.
The proclamation, passed on July 15, coincides with the group’s annual display of yard-square quilts around town and charity auction of the fabric artworks.
Delectable Mountain Quilt Guild is a community group operating under the umbrella of the Community Education Outreach system of the WVU Extension. Formed to advance the practice and art of quilt-making and to support philanthropic service in the community, the guild meets monthly to share quilt knowledge and work together on community projects like the Yard Square Quilt Auction.
All across Berkeley Springs, guild members’ fabric artwork can be seen hanging now in local businesses and window displays. They will remain on display until the 21st Annual Quilt Auction, to be held on Saturday, September 5 at 2 p.m. at the Star Theatre.
“This annual event has raised over $118,000 and created 1,045 quilts for community charities,” said this year’s organizers.
In 2026, proceeds from the quilt auction will go to the Senior Life Services of Morgan County. It features 54 unique 36” by 36” quilted wall hangings that organizers say showcase a wide variety of quilting styles, “from traditional to modern in the quilting arts tradition.”
A walking map of the quilt displays around town will be available at the Morgan Arts Council Ice House from July 30-August 5 during their annual quilt show.
