October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Morgan County Commissioner proclaimed October to be Breast Cancer Awareness Month in West Virginia and October 13 to be Breast Cancer Awareness Day in Morgan County.

At the request of the Morgan County CEOS, commissioners made the designations and reminded the public of several key aspects of health awareness.

Women over 50 should have an annual mammogram as their best method of early detection of breast cancer. Men and women should practice breast self-exams to screen for lumps and have clinical breast exams as part of their annual health monitoring.

Breast cancer is increasingly treatable when detected early. If caught early and treated, the majority of those with breast cancer will survive it.

Morgan County Commissioners Bill Clark and Sean Forney with Carol Grow, Cindy Smalley, Linda Martin, Kim Nickles and Morgan County Commission President Joel Tuttle.

ā€œI’m a testament to that,ā€ said County Clerk Kim Nickles, who is a breast cancer survivor.
