A decades-old tradition in the southern end of Morgan County is returning this Labor Day weekend. South Morgan Volunteer Fire Company’s Annual Yard Party will be held on Saturday, September 5 starting at 1 p.m.
Ham and chicken dinners will be served from a 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The fire company’s food pavilion will also be open for concessions. 
Live music will begin at 1 p.m. with Steve Keith & Lost River followed by All Grassed Up from 6 to 9 p.m.
A new “Touch a Truck” event will begin at 1 p.m., letting kids of all ages explore and learn about the working trucks in the community. A Maryland State Trooper helicopter will be among the apparatus to visit the fire station during the event. Trooper 5 will land at 3 p.m., say event organizers.
Firefighter games of skill will start at 4:30 p.m. The “Battle of the Barrel” will pit firefighter teams against one another to use their hose skills in the competition to ring the bill with the barrel.
A Live Auction of donated items will begin at 6:30 p.m., including many hand-crafted items from local artisans.
All events will take place at the South Morgan fire station, located at 10166 Winchester Grade Road in Berkeley Springs.
The Yard Party has been presented by the fire company for decades. It was integrated into the Fireman’s Carnival for the last four years. Since the carnival moved to earlier in the summer this year, the fire company decided to bring the tradition back as a stand-alone event for Labor Day weekend.
