1954-2026

Mary Lynn Nathan, age 71, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and Rockville, Md., passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2026 at her home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born November 18, 1954 in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Jerry and Nancy Stein Nathan.

She studied politics at Georgetown University and earned her master’s degree in political science from Purdue University and her bachelor’s degree in government from Bard College. Mary has over 20 years of experience in government and the nonprofit sectors. Her earlier career included employment as a Congressional staff member and a consultant to the U.S. Department of Labor. Mary later joined the staff of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, where she developed expertise in fundraising, conference management and special events.

She also served in the capacity of Executive Director of the National Gaucher Foundation and later, the National Child Support Enforcement Association. Currently, she consults with private and public groups and serves on two boards.

As a young child she was diagnosed with Gaucher Disease and advocates for people with this condition. She was the co-founder and co-chair of the Gaucher Conference Committee and organized three International Gaucher Conferences.

She enjoyed reading, traveling, spending time with friends and volunteering with non-profit organizations.

Mary is survived by her brother, Michael Samuel Nathan of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
