Evelyn Virginia (Evie) Sowers

1937-2026

Evelyn Virginia Sowers (Evie), 88, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Berkeley Springs Rehab Center on Monday, May 11, 2026.

She loved her family, singing, playing cards, bingo, tip jars, scratch-offs and watching her Orioles play baseball.

She was also a member of the Berkeley Springs Moose Lodge #1483.

Born on October 24, 1937, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she graduated from Berkeley Springs High School, Class of 1956.

She worked at Coolfont Resort for many years until retiring.

She was the daughter of the late Walter L. Clem and Elsie E. Clem of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

She is survived by her six children: Chrissy Drury (Buck Jenkins), Debbie Robinson (Kelly Wilt), Walter Vanorsdale (Valerie Vanorsdale), Gale Ricker (Michael Ricker), Teresa Reed (Jeff Reed) and Angie Schulz (JR Schulz). She was also survived by her 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Clarence “Willy” Vanorsdale; her parents Walter and Elsie Clem; sisters Mary Lea Clem, Marie Albanese, Teresa Wilkinson and Stella Oden; brothers Walter Clem, Gilbert Clem and Charles Clem; grandson Ronnie “Dooze” Smith Jr., and granddaughter Becky Miley.

Her celebration of life will be held at Berkeley Springs Moose Lodge #1483 on June 13, 2026, from 1-5 p.m. Covered dishes are welcome. Please come and celebrate our momma with us.
