Robert William Herrell, Jr.
1948-2025
Robert William Herrell, Jr., 77, of Paw Paw, W.Va., left this world and went to meet Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on Thursday, December 4, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born on May 16, 1948 in Cumberland, Md., to the late Robert W. Herrell, Sr. and Wanda Iona (Santmyire).
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Hartley “Pete” Herrell. Bob (given the name “Snooks” by his maternal grandfather) and his siblings were raised by their grandmother, Mary Ann “Molly” Santmyire from the time he was seven years old after the death of his mother.
After graduating from Oldtown High School, Maryland in 1967, he served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He also served time in the Maryland National Guard.
He married his wife, Peggy L. (Sisler) Herrell in 1969 and they raised their four children in Oldtown, Md. They resided in Paw Paw, W.Va. for the last 15 years.
Bob retired from Local 307 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in 2010. He worked at Cumberland Steel in Cumberland, Md., for 16 years until their closing.
Upon retirement, he was able to enjoy gardening, farming and hunting. He was always very proud of the years that he was able to raise cows.
He attended Green Spring Assembly of God Church for the last several years where he quickly became the door greeter, a role he thoroughly enjoyed. He was a stranger to no one, inviting passerbys and neighbors to church. Brother Bob as he was called at church rarely missed a church service or function. People were his passion and he never wanted to miss what God was going to do next.
Robert is survived by his wife, Peggy L. (Sisler) Herrell; daughter, Deanna (Brian), daughter Cheryl (Keith); son Bobby, son John (Chantel); grandchildren: Lindsay (David), Kyle (Crystal), Isabel (Levi), Joshua and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Ciara and Aubrey and three sisters, Cozanne, Cleo and Donna (Mike).
Our family would like to extend an extreme “Thank You” to the entire HLC staff and Dr. Lee at UPMC Western Maryland for making us your family. Thank you so much for caring for Bob.
Family and friends were received at the Bethel Assembly of God Church, 17908 Oldtown Rd. SE, Oldtown, Md., on Monday, December 8, 2025 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Funeral services immediately followed visitation at 1 p.m. with his daughter-in-law, Chantel Herrell officiating.
