Rutter’s opens store here November 13

Berkeley Springs’ newest gas station and convenience store opened on Thursday, November 13. Rutter’s of York, Pa. built the 14,000 square feet store along U.S. 522 south of the bypass roundabout, near the West Virginia DMV and a future commercial storefront project.

The new Rutter’s has 14 gas fueling stations and four high-speed diesel bays for tractor-trailer and heavy truck customers.

Company officials have said they anticipate employing 50 people at the new location, which is their fourth new store to open in 2025.

Rutter’s is open 24 hours a day, and has a made-to-order food service, large convenience store and a sports bar inside. The bar will be open 6 a.m. to 3 a.m., according to signage inside.

“With additional locations planned, Rutter’s is on track to continue expanding its footprint throughout the broader Mid-Atlantic region, bringing its unique blend of innovation, hospitality, and quality to even more customers. Rutter’s other two West Virginia locations are in Inwood and Martinsburg. Earlier this year, Rutter’s opened new stores in Milton and Johnstown, Pa., as well as Winchester, Va.,” company officials said in their opening press release.

On Thursday, the Rutter’s parking lot and gas station pumps were full of travelers and locals, many of whom had been waiting for the opening to see what the store looked like inside.

Company management was on site for the opening, as customers explored the facility, ordered food and gassed up at reduced fuel prices.

Rutter’s was originally a family farm that expanded into a dairy operation based out of York, Pa. The family’s second generation  expanded to convenience stores in the region. The Rutter family’s third and fourth generation now manage the regional business operation.
