The #3-seeded Paw Paw Lady Pirates came out swinging in the Class A Region II tournament on Thursday, October 30 held at Pendleton County, sweeping #6 Pocahontas County in straight sets to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Paw Paw delivered a commanding performance, winning 25-14, 25-9 and 25-15. The victory was powered by standout efforts across the roster:
- Sophia Ross led the charge with 14 points and 4 kills.
- Kyndal Corbett added 12 points, 4 aces and 8 kills.
- Shayla Tanouye dominated at the net with 15 kills, 6 points and 2 aces.
- Abby Williams contributed 5 points, 2 aces and 4 kills.
- Lydia Ross chipped in 5 points, 3 aces and 2 kills.
- Alexis Kidwell rounded out the attack with 5 points, 1 ace and 2 kills.
The win earned the Lady Pirates a matchup against #2 seed Pendleton County later that evening in the double-elimination format. Despite a valiant effort, Paw Paw fell in three sets: 11-25, 20-25 and 15-25.
In the loss, Abby Williams led with 6 points and an ace, while Lydia Ross and Shayla Tanouye combined for 7 kills. Kyndal Corbett, Sophia Ross and Alexis Kidwell each added points to the scoreboard.
Head Coach Holly Palmer praised her team’s grit: “These girls continue to play their hearts out. Hustling to loose balls and covering their teammates’ backs.”
Now, the Lady Pirates return home with a chance to extend their season. Paw Paw hosted the elimination game on Monday, November 3, awaiting the winner of Pocahontas County vs. Tygarts Valley.
