James McKinley Ambrose

1947-2025

James McKinley “Jimmy” Ambrose, age 78, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Winchester Medical Center.

Born June 25, 1947 in Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Conard and Julia Ellen (Hovermale) Ambrose.

Jimmy was a member of the Berkeley Springs Church of Christ.

He was 1965 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School and enlisted United States Air Force later that year.

He was a jet engine mechanic and completed his military career as a Flight Steward on the Air Force II during the vice presidency of George H. W. Bush, retiring after 22 years of service. He also worked at the Post Office in Berkeley Springs, after his military retirement. He was a member of the Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1483. Jimmy enjoyed fishing, cooking, Chevy cars, spending time with his family and his dog, Levi.

He loved sitting with his friends and socializing.

He is survived by his life partner, Brenda Cornett, one aunt, Priscilla Walker and many cousins.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The family received friends from 11 a.m. until the service time. Dick Bartrug officiated. Burial with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard was in Spohrs Crossroads Cemetery.
