Valetta Jean Boudreau

1955–2025

Valetta Jean Boudreau, age 69, of Berkeley Springs, passed away at the Hospice of the Panhandle on September 30 after experiencing a stroke.

As the longtime manager of the Community Garden Market, she was a beloved friend, mentor, and mother figure to many.

Born on October 9, 1955, Valetta grew up on her family’s 120-acre farm and was the youngest of her nine siblings.

She graduated from Berkeley Springs High School in 1973. She had a son, Lewis Scott Bishop, with her first husband Harry Lee Bishop and later went on to have a daughter, Nikki Boudreau, with her second husband Timothy Patrick Boudreau.

In 1989, Valetta and her family moved to Northern California where she ran a children’s daycare out of her home for over a decade. In 2009 she returned to Berkeley Springs to take care of her mother, Hazel, and lived out the rest of her life in her hometown.

Valetta is survived by her son Scott, daughter Nikki, brother Norval Edward Hendershot, and sisters Mary Ellen Willinghan, Rhoda Mae Reed, and Pearl Rebecca Hendershot.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Harry, second husband Tim, parents Lewis Jackson Hendershot, Sr. and Hazel Hendershot, brothers Lewis Jackson Hendershot, Jr. and James William Hendershot, and sisters Sophie LaVerne Creek and Peggy Lou Welsh.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 1 from 3-6 p.m. at Wind Dance Farm in Berkeley Springs.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Valetta’s memory may be made to the Hospice of the Panhandle.
