West Virginia, county in drought again

Last Tuesday, September 23, 100% of Morgan County was considered to be experiencing Moderate Drought conditions and 82% of the county was in Severe Drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Several days of rain fell on our area this past week, which may change the designation for next week.

Neighboring Berkeley County showed 100% of its area under Moderate and Severe Drought.

The monitor is operated in partnership with the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the United States Department of Agriculture and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Drought Monitor maps are based on data calculated on Tuesday of each week.  The maps are released each Thursday at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time.
