Joyce Madeline Kaylor
1935-2025
Joyce Madeline Kaylor, 90, of Paw Paw, W.Va., arrived at her heavenly home on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from the Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Winchester, Va.
Born on June 24, 1935, in Paw Paw, she was the daughter of the late Curtis and Margaret Crouse Bohrer.
In addition to her parents, she was joyfully reunited with her husband, William Kaylor; her daughter, Pamela Hardy; a great-granddaughter, Maggie Carder; her brother, Ronald Bohrer; and her sister, Shelby Louch.
Known for her diligence and desire to provide for her family, Joyce entered the workforce following her graduation from Paw Paw High School in 1953. She was employed by Raygold Industries in Paw Paw until its closure, after which she worked at Crown Cork and Seal in Winchester, Va., where she remained until her retirement.
Following her marriage, she relocated to Cumberland, Md., where she assisted with the daily operations of BBR Hobby. Her personality was able to shine in this role, as she loved socializing with the customers.
Joyce was an active member of Woodrow Union Church and held numerous roles during her lifetime of service there, including teaching Sunday School and participating in the Ladies Auxiliary. The church remained a priority for her throughout the years, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand. She especially valued Homecoming Sunday and organizing the annual “deep clean” of the church that led up to the event.
Joyce was recently a member of the Pin Oak Women’s Group and Paw Paw Community Choir. She was a former member of the Women’s Civic Club in Cumberland, Md.
She had a passion for music, dancing, sunbathing and remaining active. She was energetic and walked daily, even after she had to start using that pesky cane. She took great pride in appearance and wouldn’t miss her Friday visits to the beauty salon.
She loved sweets, Coca-Cola, and was always ready to share treats with the grandkids. She treasured having company and hosting family gatherings. She was a talented quiltmaker and embroiderer. She cherished gifting her art to those she loved for special occasions. Joyce will always be remembered as a strong, independent provider who strived to pass down a legacy of faith to her family and all others with the honor of knowing her.
Joyce is survived by her children: Gary L. Carder and his wife Nancy, and Leah Kidwell and her husband Richard; her brother: Leon Bohrer and his wife Mary, all of Paw Paw; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the Woodrow Union Church near Paw Paw on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 12-1 p.m., with a celebration of Joyce’s life beginning at 1 p.m. Officiating will be Ken Burkhart. A time of food and fellowship will immediately follow. A private inurnment will be held in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Woodrow Union in support of the children’s ministry.
