William Hugh Johnson, Jr.
1944-2025
William Hugh Johnson, Jr., age 81, of Great Cacapon, W.Va., passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
Born on June 23, 1944, he was the son of the late William Hugh and Emma Elizabeth Bowers Johnson.
Hugh was a drug and alcohol counselor in Fairfax County, Va. and also worked at Giant Foods for twenty years. He spent 43 years in recovery and during those years he was passionate about helping others with addiction and recovery.
He is survived by two sons, Billy Hale and David Johnson, one sister, Linda Linthicum, one brother, Howard Johnson, six grandchildren, Sara Fesko, Taylor Hale, Dylan Cox, David Johnson, Melissa Johnson and Melanie Johnson and two great-grandchildren, Audrey Fesko and Charlotte Fesko.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Lynn Hale and one sister, Elizabeth Diane Johnson.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with Pastor Darlene Powers officiating. Family received friends from noon to 2 p.m. prior to services. Burial was private.
