A sweltering start to Summer 2025

by Lisa Schauer

The summer solstice on Friday, June 20 officially marked the first day of summer, 2025.

Morgan County, along with most of the eastern U.S., has been under a widespread heat dome for most of the week.

A heat advisory has been in effect for Morgan County since, with near record high temperatures by Monday. The area was under a heat advisory, with the heat index reaching near 104 degrees under sunny skies.

A dangerous, widespread heat dome of high pressure will continue to bake much of the central and eastern U.S., bringing the hottest temperatures of the year and uncomfortably muggy air that could last into much of this week, according to The Weather Channel.

Multiple cooling shelters were opened on Monday in Morgan County to allow for public spaces that offered air conditioning and a safe place out of the heat.
