Janet Marie Newby, age 75, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born May 30, 1949 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of William Richard and Mary Myrtle Hovermale Swink.
Janet was a Christian. She was a 1967 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
Janet was a supervisor in manufacturing and worked for Vanguard and Rubbermaid. She also was a bartender at the Berkeley Springs Moose for 20 years and also a lifetime member of Women of the Moose Chapter #1311 where she served all offices and received her Academy of Friendship on April 29, 1979, College of Regents on June 8, 1980, Star Recorder on May 30, 1993 and was Past Deputy Grand Regent in 1999.
She enjoyed crosswords, bowling, playing the slots and camping.
She is survived by two sons, Brian Keith Ailor and Anthony Richard Newby (Tiffany) of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., three daughters, Terri Lynn Eaton (Jamie), Tina Marie Newby, all of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and Michelle Lynn Watson of Greensboro, N.C., two sisters, Portia Marie Henry of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and Bernice Stotler of Vienna, Va., one brother, Raymond Sylvester Bernhard of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., 19 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Glenna Irene Bowers and Alta Marie Bernhard, four brothers, Jacob William Bernhard, Robert Cornelius Swink, Richard Lewis Swink and Mark William Swink and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. with Pastor Van Heslop officiating. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
