Roger Fredrick Shetler

Roger Fredrick Shetler, 86, of Berkeley Springs, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2025, at home under the care of his family and Hospice of the Panhandle.

He was born in West Bolivar, Pa., son of the late Fred and Helen Shetler.

He was a member of Berkeley Baptist Church. As an outreach, he opened the “old gym” for pickup basketball on Thursday. More recently, he liked to help with food pantry. He loved to be outdoors, preferably hunting or fishing. He enjoyed history, supporting his children and grandchildren, milkshakes, Penns Cave Days and the Grange Fair. He was a life-long Dodgers fan.

In the years his boys played, he managed the Compton’s Little League team.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by U.S. Silica (formerly Pennsylvania Glass Sand) over forty-one years. He often offered “If you need anything, let me know.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Glen Shetler and Patricia LaMantia. He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Renna, and his seven children; daughter Ann Bent and her husband, Art, of Gardiner, Mont., and son Doug and his wife, Creama, of Berkeley Springs, and son Lynn of Belleville, Pa., and daughter Susan Close and her husband, James, of Berkeley Springs, and son Scott and his wife, Kathie, of Winchester, Va., and son Lee and his wife, Amanda, of Bedford, Pa., and daughter Carol Breeden and her husband, Andy, of Berkeley Springs, seventeen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one brother, Gary, of Johnstown, Pa. and several nieces and nephews.

No funeral services will be held at his request.

Memorial contributions may be made in Roger’s memory to Berkeley Baptist Church, 172 Winchester Grade Road, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
