Mildred Lee Close
1936-2025
Mildred (“Millie”) Lee Close, age 88, of Falls Church, Virginia, beloved wife of Donald S. Close, passed away February 18, 2025, after a dignified and courageous battle with Urothelial Cancer.
She is survived by her children, Kevin Eugene Close of Arlington, Va., Rex Allan Close (Wendy Close) of Manassas, Va., Kimberly Close Bowden (Alan Bowden) of Ashburn, Va. and her loving and devoted grandchildren, Connor Close, Brandon Close, Lily Grace Close, Colin Close, Christopher Bowden, Nicholas Bowden and Michael Bowden. She is also survived by her sister Donna Jean Didawick (Ercel Didawick) as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Millie was born August 26, 1936 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. and was the daughter of the late Gavin Lunger and Opal Mae Johnson.
She was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School, Class of 1954.
Millie began her career as a skilled seamstress before transitioning to a role as a Loan Operations Administrator at First Virginia Bank where she worked from 1980-1998.
She had a deep passion for reading, traveling and particularly enjoyed long walks on the beach. A gifted cook and baker, Millie’s culinary talents brought joy to many. Her love for family and children was also expressed in countless crocheted baby blankets she gifted to many newborn babies.
Above all, Millie treasured her family – especially her seven grandchildren. Throughout her courageous battle with cancer, her primary focus was to spend more time with them and be present for the special moments in their lives.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Friendship United Methodist Church, 3527 Gallows Road, Annandale, Va. with Pastor Jim Harrington. Grave site services will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1 with Chaplain Lindsey Arnold. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 27 at the Advent Funeral Home, 7211 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Va.
