Hampshire County Commissioner David Cannon has been named the new state delegate for the 89th district, which includes the western-most portions of Morgan County.
Cannon will represent the district in the West Virginia House of Delegates, filling an open seat that had been held by Hampshire County resident Darren Thorne, who was re-elected as delegate in November.
Thorne left the position to take over the West Virginia State Senate seat that was left vacant when Charles Trump IV became the newest member of the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals in December.
According to reporting by The Hampshire Review, Cannon intends to stay on the Hampshire County Commission through February 11 to give his colleagues time to find a replacement for him on the county board.
