Paw Paw Lady Pirates shocks Berkeley Springs in a monumental victory

In a stunning turn of events, the revived Paw Paw Lady Pirates basketball pro- gram defeated their Class AAA Morgan County neighbor, the Berkeley Springs Lady Indians, on Friday night, December 20, at the Berkeley Springs High School gym.

This victory marks a significant milestone for the small but determined Lady Pirates and highlights the team’s resilience after the program’ s revival this year.

Led by a performance from Shayla Tanouye, who recorded a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds, Paw Paw displayed grit and determination that belied their size.

Supporting Tanouye was Pricilla Corbin, who contributed 8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Alexis Kidwell added 6 points and 11 rebounds, Joselyn Smith chipped in with 6 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots and Myley Mullins secured 2 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.

For Berkeley Springs, junior standout Katie Risinger led the team with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Kaya Delauter was a force on the boards, collecting 13 rebounds to go along with her 4 points. Hailey Adkins (4 points, 2 assists), Maci Michael (3 points) and Reese Souders (2 points, 9 rebounds) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Indians.

Paw Paw’s second win of the season (2-1) serves as an early Christmas gift for a program that has fought hard to reestablish itself. The victory underscores the potential and promise of the Lady Pirates, who are proving they can compete with larger programs.

This victory not only adds to the Lady Pirates’ growing confidence but also sends a message that Paw Paw basketball is back and ready to compete with the best.
