John Douglas Gaither, Sr.
1945-2024
John Douglas Gaither, Sr., age 79, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at Winchester Medical Center.
Born February 26, 1945 in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Otis William and Agnes Virginia Shambaugh Gaither.
Johnny worked for CSX Railroad for 39 years. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and Mt. Zion Community Church. He was a life member of Moose Lodge #1483, a member of the Junior Order Lodge and the American Legion Post, all in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Johnny was an avid New York Yankees fan and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He loved to travel and taking bus trips. His greatest love was his grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending their sporting events.
Johnny is survived by two daughters, Lisa Keefer (Keith) and Wendy Drennen (Scott), one son, John Gaither, Jr. (Angie), five grandchildren, Nathan, Kimberly, Joshua, Elizabeth and Christofer, nine great grandchildren, Liam, Kiara, Aiden, Parker, Evan, Mason, Camden, Waylon and Luca and one sister, Janice Stotler (Melvin).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Gaither in 2018 and six siblings, James, Leonard, Bernard, Wilma, Norma and Bernice.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2 p.m. with Pastors Chuck Bergen and Dick Voorhar officiating.
