Charles Edwin Fischer

1938-2024

Charles Edwin “Ed” Fischer, age 86, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away on Monday, December 23, 2024 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Born August 31, 1938 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., he was the son of Sylvester Andrew and Marie Brule Fischer.

Ed graduated from Wayne State University and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy for ten years active duty and was a Vietnam Veteran. He continued his service for another twenty years as a U.S. Navy reservist, retiring as a Commander. After his active duty, he was a computer systems analyst for the Social Security Administration.

He was a lector and minister of the Eucharist at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

He was an active member of Howard County Woodworking Guild and made toys for the Toys for Tots each year.

Ed is survived by his wife Patricia Maureen Joplin Fischer, one daughter, Andrea Wehage (Louis) of Street, Md., one son, Andrew Fischer of Front Royal, Va., one granddaughter, Catie Wehage and two brothers, Henry Fischer and William Fischer, both of Michigan.

In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by an older brother Joseph Fischer. Services and interment will be private.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
