Judge appoints Vince Shambaugh as Morgan County Magistrate

23rd Circuit Court Judge Laura Faircloth has appointed retired Morgan County sheriff Vince Shambaugh to the bench as Morgan County’s next Magistrate, following the resignation of Magistrate-elect K.C. Bohrer from the position. Bohrer announced on December 6 that he would not take office in January due to his close ties to law enforcement organizations, which he would have to cut in order to take the judicial position.

On Thursday, December 12, an Administrative Order was entered into the Circuit Court appointing Vince Shambaugh to replace Bohrer on the bench. Shambaugh will serve until the next regular election, which will be the primary election in May 2026. Shambaugh will be required to take judicial training before taking office on January 2, 2025.

Shambaugh retired from law enforcement at the end of his term as Sheriff, but challenged Bohrer in the 2020 Republican primary to regain the position. Bohrer has served two terms as Sheriff and will retire at the end of this month.
