Thousands of visitors, locals, volunteers and vendors gathered in sunny and clear weather for the 49th annual Apple Butter Festival on Saturday, October 12 and Sunday, October 13.
The Berkeley Springs-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce hosted a kick-off party on Friday evening, October 11 in the beer, wine and spirits garden.
Last weekend’s festival included perennial favorites such as the beard and mustache contest, hog-calling contest, baking contest, egg toss, duck race, and quilt raffle, along with browsing and buying throughout downtown Berkeley Springs.
Festivalgoers of all ages watched steaming vats of apple butter being made in the square.
Live performances from bands on two different stages included All Grassed Up, The Nighthawks, The Plate Scrapers, and The Flashbacks. Cacapon Ridge performed bluegrass gospel music on Sunday morning. Black Cat Village Band, and Berkeley Springs High School dance also performed at this year’s Apple Butter Festival.
Tents lined the sidewalks, filled with crafts, jewelry, clothing, baked goods, and artwork for sale.
Smokey, sweet and savory smells wafted from the food court and food trucks situated around the festival perimeter as visitors explored the fall festival atmosphere and searched for their perfect souvenir of the weekend.
