Lyle Francis Dawson
1930-2024
Lyle Francis “Pete” Dawson, age 93, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Winchester Medical Center.
Born December 28, 1930 in Oakland, Md., he was the son of the late Henry Harrison and Ida Lucinda Smith Dawson.
He was a Christian. Pete served with the U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War and was by all accounts truly dedicated to his country.
He worked as a mechanic for Boeing Aircraft, Fairchild Republic Aircraft, Van Guard and was an operator at O’Sullivan.
Lyle was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Pete is survived by his children, Lyla Gale Fleegle, Randy Scott Dawson and Allen Robertson, two stepsons, Jimmy Largent and William Largent, one sister, Nina Jewell, eight grandchildren, Cory Jason Dawson, April Dawson Daily, Jessie Dawson, Thray W. Carlisle, Marci R. Faro, Ayleashua Dawson and Roger Carlisle, Jr. eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Euray Gail DeVille Dawson, his second wife, Gretchen Largent, two sons, Lyle Francis “Buck” Dawson, Jr. and Jason Dawson, one sister, Naomi Clark and two brothers, Dale Dawson and Leo Dawson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Pastor John Sharpless will officiate. Burial with graveside military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Greenway Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
