Northern Virginia man charged with grand larceny

A 67-year-old Manassas man has been charged with grand larceny after visiting the Salt Cave in Berkeley Springs on Monday, August 19.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Morgan County Magistrate Court by Deputy Chris Roper with the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, police were dispatched to the Salt Cave for a reported larceny around noon.

The owner’s iPhone 14 Pro Max, valued at $1,100, was reported missing from where it was laid on the counter.

Using a “find my iPhone” app, the owner located the phone still onsite in a customer’s locked gym locker. Opening the locker with a master key, the owner discovered the missing phone.

Video surveillance showed a woman pointing to the phone, and a man putting the phone in his pocket, according to the criminal complaint.

The man, identified as Edwin Willis, mumbled intelligibly and drove off when confronted about the missing phone after his spa service.

At that point, the owner got Willis’ license plate number, which matched up to an address in Northern Virginia.

Willis was arrested by warrant and charged with grand larceny. He is awaiting a hearing in the incident.
